Hi,

my name is Mike.
I'm 63.

Well, I have had a couple of persistent (3-4 weeks) sores (whitish)
on the inside of my lip (left side) and the left underside of
my tongue.
I thought they were plain canker sores, but I am no longer sure.
So I shall have a doctor have a look this week.
Kind regards,
Mike

Hi Mike,

It's wise to have something like that checked out. Do yourself a favor and try to stay away from Dr. Google. You'll just stress yourself out for no reason. Most of what's on the web is not current or accurate. You'll get the best info from experience here.

You didn't mention any other symptoms so it sounds encouraging that you'll be Ok.

Positive thoughts and prayers

I (half-jokingly) wrote in my cancer blog that you can go thru the WebMD flow chart and it can tell you either have Ebola or you're pregnant. I'm a guy.

If you MUST look stuff up on the web, you're in the right place here. Talk to survivors. I actually even tried to avoid reading posts from people who are having a hard time. When you're in the thick of things you need to avoid as much of that as possible. Now that I'm on the other side of things I actively try to search out folks who are struggling and encourage them.

I wouldn't freak out over staging either. While I hope (and will pray) it is, stage 1 in head and neck is pretty rare. I know many folks on this site know more than I do but I get the feeling that there is a point fairly early on beyond which there is no change in the treatment plan regardless of staging. There are a LOT of stage 4's who kicked this things butt in fine shape.

If its to battle you're going, go knowing we are getting better and better at killing this thing. Get pissed off and fight! If you're not going into battle, well then that's a celebration!

Hi there the fact that is diverse doesn't sound as though it is cancer, perhaps you have something else going on. Usually - though not always - there is a primary. Multiple locations would make me think that it is maybe an infection or something. It is best to have it checked out regardless as one of the areas of concern could be cancerous. Do see an experienced ENT who has a lot of cancer knowledge. best of luck.
