I'm three weeks post treatment. Recovery is painfully slow (literally). To add to the misery, I came down with a gout attack on my left foot the beginning of May. It started in my ankle and moved to the big toe. I had a previous attack 5 years ago but not nearly the severity of this one. I went for a followup with my MO on the 6th and she told me that gout is a side effect of Cisplatin. Nice eh? It's better but still lingering enough to be uncomfortable.

Anyone else have this happen? Other than meds and ibuprofen, any other remedies, solutions to keep this at bay?

Yes...it can be Hyperuricemia from the chemo causing increased cell death wih increase in uric acid, although could be other causes, contributers. I just had surgery, 2 blood transfusion, almost on dialysis from uric acid kidney stones, from chemo, causing acute kidney failure with creatine at 7.2, hemaglobin 7. I assume your doctor's know, monitoring you, and May seems far away to wait. I had Taxotere, Erbitux my last treatment, which ended in November '12. I had a similar bout, probably worse, in 2010, 5 months post treatment from Taxotere, Cisplatin, 5-Fu, and almost didn't make it. Here is a link that may be helpful. maybe try to see your doctor, have a blood test sooner. Good luck.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the info. I have standing orders for blood work once a week locally. They send the results to my team and they contact me of something is amiss. I have that done on Mondays. I haven't heard back this week.

It's getting better but it's still pretty uncomfortable. Fortunately, the liquid Oxy I'm on takes the edge off wink

Thanks again Paul. I'm going to write my MO and she what she has to say.

A standing order every week sounds good. Every time they tell me to come back in three months, I wind up having a problem. My oncologist had to call me a day after my blood work, and would rather monitor it more closely.

Dark cherry juice. Find it at vitamin shoppe, gnc or whatever health/nutrition shop is near you. Mix it with water or chug it (like I do). It is not sweet. It actually doesn't taste great but keeps me attack free

Thanks for the feedback. I contacted my PCP as I'm due for a follow-up appointment and blood work. He checks cholesterol and other heart related numbers. I'll have him check uric acid levels and a few other things while he's at it.

The attack has waned over the last week but I still have stiffness and pain in the foot.
