Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 1,406 | I was told 4 minutes with the trays followed by nothing for half an hour. I do it just before bed so I'm not tempted to drink anything. But some months ago my dentist suggested that I might not need to do it every night but rather to brush with the stuff (I use Prevident) and do the trays once or twice a week. But my oncologist seemed to think I should keep up the trays. I'm following her advice, though once a week or so I might skip the trays and just brush with it.

Joined: Apr 2012 Posts: 111 | Just to be different, I can only imagine what flouride trays are like. No mention of them for me here in the UK. But right from the start I was prescribed Duraphat 2800ppm Flouride toothpaste (0.619% Sodium flouride) and told to use it 2-3 times a day with no water rinse after, or food or water for half an hour. The main emphasis was on good dental hygiene particularly flossing before bed. Also it was stressed to avoid sugary or acidic drinks (ie fruit juice, even lemon in water is a very bad for teeth)unless eating at the same time. Milk is OK.
As I am very worried about the future possibility of osteoradionecrosis (ORN)I am very careful about what I drink. I clean my teeth after each meal and use a sodium bicarb mouth rinse frequently and when I remeber I use a saliva replacement get to before eating to give my teeth a bit more protection.
Dx 10/11 51yrs LBOT Stage 4 2nodes HPV16+. Non-smoker mod alcohol.
10/11 Induction chemox2 (Docetaxel, 5-Flu, Cisplatin) then Cisplatinx2 IMRTx30. Ended 01/13/12.
12/07/11 RIG. RIG removed 05/05/12.
4/12 CT scan clear. Visual scope checks clear as of 10/13. Learning to live with eating challenges.

I started with Prevident at the time costing like $20 a tube but I found Cypress for appx $8 a tube so being a faithful CPA I switched quickly with my dentist's permission of course.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 1,406 | Thanks, David. You'd mentioned Cypress before and I believe I looked into it. Must not have been an option for some reason or I certainly would have switched. Anywho I'll ask my dental office again next time I'm there. Believe I pay them 11 bucks for Prevident, but you don't need to be a CPA to do your math on the other product.
