posted September 25, 2004 12:59 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, My name is Jim and I am waiting for results to a biopsy done on 9/21. My dentist noticed an abnormal area on my gums and set up an appointment with an oral surgeon. He took a piece and sent it out for eval. I'll know by 10/5. GOD I am scared. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posts: 1 | From: NJ | Registered: Sep 2004 | IP: Logged

Hi- I copied and pasted your post to the introduction site as our forum moderator and OCF founder, Brian Hill, is in Las Vegas at the first OCF meeting for our members. He would have done this much more skillfully, but I didn't want your post overlooked. You will get answers on both threads, I am sure!
It is so tough waiting on results. We have been there and understand. I have had a lot of people contact me when they have the same thing happen, dentist noticed something and tests it. Not one of them have turned out to be cancer, but it was a wake up call for all of them to be more concious of their health. All were smokers, chewers, heavy drinkers, etc.
We like to say around here that "It ain't cancer till they say it's cancer." I am praying for patience for you and that your results are negative.
Sincerely, Lisa in Ks

Sorry you were compelled to find us by a possible issue, but welcome. We will try to help as much as we can. As Lisa mentioned, this may not be cancer, but may only be a wake up call to get you to look at your life style and make some changes. My ENT told me it might be a wake up call, but he thought it was cancer, and he was right. But I had a swelling in my neck, not an issue in my mouth, so you may be OK. I would suggest you not worry too much, as that won't help anything, and if it is nothing, then that's a good thing. If it is something, we'll be here to help you through it. We have all walked the same or similar path and advise new folks what to expect if treatment is needed. So hang in there and again as Lisa said "It ain't cancer till the pathologist says it is". My prayers are with you.

Welcome to the neighborhood! Glad to have you drop in but sorry you had to find us. I am hoping you are just a visitor passing through. I don't know how you can wait from 9/21 to 10/5. It just seems to long to be patient. As a matter of fact, if you like, I will get on the phone and hound them for faster results on your behalf. I am feeling a bit fiesty today anyway. We often hear of delays like this in other countries but often it is just a day or two tops.
Best wishes for good news from your biopsy. You have a lull now as you wait and you should not worry while you are guarenteed cancer free until they can prove otherwise.

I also from NJ, Trenton to be precise. I'd try to push to get the results ASAP. Waiting is such a drag. In the meantime, read this site and anything else you can to get you informed. It ain't cancer until they tell but the better informed you are when get a dx, the more cabable you are of making decisions for treatment. Fortunately, NJ puts you in easy distance from several major cancer centers. Make certain you go to one of them and some even have outpatint facilities for radiation.
Hope it is nothing and you just have careful dentist.
Take care, Eileen
