Andy,

Thanks for signing in even though you had a very brief period of getting diagnosed and treated. Hearing positive outcome stories are always encouraging.

Glad you caught it early and the surgery cleared it out. I'm sure you don't need any reminders from us here to stay current on those checkups and tests down the road. Congrats!

Don,

Thanks! While this ordeal did fly by, I have this nagging feeling that it isn't over. I hope and pray that it is, I just don't want it to come back. Until you are labeled with cancer, you really cant know! A couple of analogies I came up with. Cancer is like rust in a car, you really know if you have gotten it all.
The other analogy for me, while I was walking around with a tumor on my tongue, was that I felt like a bomb was inside my face. It is the most insane feeling.

I trust your treatments will go well Don!

Hi there... I have been there... it takes a while to get past it. With every year and clean check up that passes you get a little less freaked. For me it is still relatively early in the healing process. Two weeks from now will be the second year anniversary since my surgery. I have those moments of fear still. But at some point you have to stop giving your life over to the diagnosis and live... otherwise the time you do have is a waste. Yes we've had Cancer and yes it could come back, but we could also be hit my a truck tomorrow... hugs... Mind you the next time I have a mouth sore or a cold I'll still have that moment of panic and need to be talked down.. hugs!

Just an update.... I am now 4.5 weeks post op, and everything is healing as it should. Swelling is gone, stitches are gone, and my speech is 95% except for S's. Frustrating a little, but I am blessed, and not complaining!

Now comes the waiting game..... I stare at the void where the cancer was sometimes, waiting for it to erupt and fill the void the surgeon left. But I'm optimistic.....and overly dramatic!!

I hope everyone is doing the best they can in their own situation, as my thoughts are with everyone going through this experience.

Andy

I'm with ya. I have my first real post-op check-up, scopes etc., on Monday. Trying not to think about it...talk about a pink elephant in the room!

Stay positive and keep strong.

At this time there have not been any studies done that I am aware of which have linked trauma to SCC. We have seen many patients come thru here who have had their tumors begin where the denture rubs them inside their mouth. When you bit your tongue that is what caused the LCP (sorry I didnt understand what it was before, dun!). The LCP turned into SCC, but the original cause really was when you bit your tongue.

You are very fortunate! You didnt let your nervousness get in the way of seeing the doctor. You stayed on top of it which not all patients do. You are very lucky not to need further treatment.

Best wishes with your continued recovery!
