Hello out there.Found this site approx 3am this morning .Pray tell why a 51 year old man was on a computer in his living room instead of sleeping? Here is the lowdown.I noticed my lymph swelled up app 4-5 months ago, being the hardhead I am I never gave it a second thought.Big mistake. The last month I have lost my voice for the most part, coughing, the lymph glands have gotten very tender and painful. So 2 weeks ago went to see the doctor. He tried antibotics, symptoms got worse, got me in for a ultrasound,it did not show anything but alot of infection around the glands. He sent me to the hospital yesterday for a ct scan. They had me wait in a interview room. The news came that they found a mass under my tongue.Fear,Fear,Fear has set in have a appointment today to see a ENT. Right now watching the grandboy play with my bordercollie,I am in a tailspin right now with emotions, found your site last night and began to read.I hope I can be as strong as you folks.Where do I go next?I am at the hands of doctors I really dont know, thinking about calling my va doctor I have been his patient for 23-24 years and see what he suggest. What a blessing it would be if the mass was not cancerious but with all my symptoms ???

Hi, John - welcome to our site! Remember that it's not cancer until a biopsy says it is! I have to do some work right now, but wanted to at least say hi. Will check in on you later. Keep yourself busy until your appointment by getting a notebook and writing down your questions.

Hi - hoping your visit goes well... By under your tongue do you mean base of tongue? (Down your throat?)

It could be an infection and I'm hoping it is, I know it's scary - we've all been there.

This is the place to be if you need support. Take care and best of luck.

Stay with us John and let us know what the ENT says or does. There are many "experts" on this site that will help you and your family get through this whatever it turns out to be.

Hi John,

Ditto to everyone's comments. Hope for the best, but do some research about questions to ask. This is overwhelming at first, but do what you can...If you're like me, you want some control, so find a good ENT in your area with experience in oral cancer, so if it's the worst, you can get a referral in ASAP.

Good luck and keep us posted.
