Hello everyone. I have a few questions that I would like to ask. My aunt has stage 4 cancer. She finished her radiation about 3 weeks ago and is in excruitiating pain. They recently did a scan and found out that although the tumor is no longer in her lymph nodes, there is a small part left. They want to give her a round of chemo.

She now has an infection and was admitted to the hospital. The morphine took a while to work, but she is resting comfortably. Should she be in this much pain after radiation? She sits at night and rocks back and forth from the pain. She has every pain medication you can think of, including a patch that she applies directly on the skin.

Her mouth is also shut and she is unable to open this. The doctor said there is nothing they can do for this.

I know I am rambling but it's terrible to see a loved one, or anyone, go through this. One last comment, I admire all of you who face this terrible cancer each and every day. Hang in there!

Hi, Chris, I think if you ask anyone here on the board about pain and discomfort from rad, you`ll get the same answer, it is excruciatingly painful, more so than surgery. I would question the doc further about her inability to open her mouth, rad will affect movement but i would ask if there are any plans to help remedy the situation...........Lets get the infection cleared up first..............Keep us posted.........Packer
