I had a pet scan on Monday and the results showed I had cancer in the lymph nodes in my left side of my neck. I've had this feeling of dome for about a week now and this is not all of it. They also are getting the team back together because they see a few spots in my lungs. I have had several pnemonias in the last year. They say they can operate on this scc and they couldn't on my last one. I read hear all the time so I have some ideas and questions to ask. Thanks to all of you.

Thank you Kathy. I just saw my oncologist 2 weeks ago. He says oh I see you have a pet scan set. He says if it comes back clean, people with 2 years have a greater chance of it not returning. This is exactly the time 2 years ago. I don't know my feelings are all over the place at the moment. Thank god my husband was my care taker because he brought up questions to remind my ENT to ask the team. It's great your husband had you.

Have they done a biopsy yet? also re pneumonia... and spots they should definitely biopsy that area as well. Hope it's not in your lungs. and surgery is a good thing. I know it sounds worse than rads but its not! hugs praying for you.

They did a needle biopsy on Wednesday. Dr. called and said she did'nt get enough speciman so I have to Intervenion Radiology to have them do the biopsy lapriscopically. I have been die all weekend for them to get started. What do you think? The lymph nodes are worse than having the spots on my lungs. I am very worried about my lungs. I guess I'll know more as the week goes by.

I seriously hope the spots are environmental or pneumonia, and the biopsy is negative... praying for you.

Hi all,
They did the biopsy again today using ultra sound to make sure they get enough tissue. The pathologist was standing there to make sure they got enough. Should know the outcome tomorrow. I also had a CT scan. They wanted to do surgery tomorrow, but my pneumonia is still present. The spots on my lungs are part of the pneumonia and not cancer thank God! So looks like surgery Monday. Is it normal just to have sergery with no rads?

My son had a spot on his lung, too and we both worried so much about it until the CT results came in and showed it was from pneumonia that he had previously. Wish I'd know then about the possibility of it being just a "pneumonia spot".

Oh my god!!! I am insanely happy for you - pneumonia is not fun but substantially better than cancer! smile

As for surgery - hell yes. It's immediate - that said- a follow up with rads and chemo wouldn't hurt particularly since this is your second go round. The can reradiate - probe them about it but firstly good luck on surgery! And fingers crossed on the biopsy as well.

Thrilled to hear that the lung spots were of the normal variety and not the cancer variety. I am also hanging my head in shame I knew that not all spots are cancer. When I was first diagnosed in 2004, they found a spot on one lung which has been followed annually. Turns out it is scar tissue from a bout of brochitis. Wish I had told you spots could be other than cancer frown - but you probably wouldn't have rested until you knew about YOUR spot. I know I wouldn't have!

Hi all,
I just had my surgery on Monday the 19th. They did a neck dissection of 27 lymph nodes found that 2 were definitely cancerous. The surgery was about 7.5 hrs. I was in the hospital for 6 days. They might have done some damage to one of my volcal cords. It goes to sleep. They think that will go away. I will have a numb ear lobe (ear rings are better put in when looking the in the mirro anyway). The other thing I wanted to mention for Charm is they also did a Cricopharyngeal Myotomy. I can now eat. Just little portions which I will start next week. I will use thick it in my water to use when I swallow with food. I am so glad all is well at the moment.

I see my rad oncologist next week. I hope no rads to be be done. This surgery really kicked my butt. The healing time for this will definitely take a bit longer. Just glad the holidays are here to see all the smiles and not all the frowns. It helps to heal faster that way. Thanks all for asking. I will let you know about the rads. See ya!
