At this walk just like any of the others, you will get to meet fellow survivors and caregivers. Too often survivors feel isolated and alone like no one else understands what they go thru and how they struggle after treatments to regain their former lives. Meeting other survivors in person is a memorable experience! Even if you are not up to walking, please consider attending anyway.

Oral cancer survivors are free but you still need to register each person attending. Many OCF members will begin their own fund raising pages. Many survivors or families of the ones we lost will create teams and make a big day out of the event. If anyone needs help with creating their own donor drive page, please ask and I can help you.

I will be the speaker at the Cleveland walk on Saturday. Hope to see you there!!!! smile

I was very happy to attend the Cleveland walk, soggy though it was! Got to talk with my virtual friends ChristineB and SueZ in person. Congrats to Christine on a moving and effective speech, and to SueZ on her fund raising skills.
If you are thinking of attending one of there walks, and are afraid that it would be too emotionally or physically taxing - I think I can put your mind at ease. There is a feeling of support and energy and hope for the future - and if you can't do the walk, or the whole walk (like me) there will be place for you I am sure.
Thanks to the wonderful Dental Hygienist's Association of Cleveland for sponsering the walk.

The Cleveland walk had a surprisgly large turn out for the weather being so lousy. It was pouring rain. At the end of the walk it finally cleared up.

I was thrilled to meet in person Shannon Nanne, the organizer of the walk. She worked so hard and got her whole family involved, even her 2 small children helped out. There were several OCF members attending including Maria, Suez, Ginny and Mike. I know Ginny and Mike have also met David in FL. What a great time it was chatting with these fellow survivors and caregivers! We are our own little club and truly understand each other. Sue raised over $1000 with her donor drive fund raiser! Way to go Sue!!!!!

It was my pleasure being the speaker for the Cleveland walk. I urge anyone considering attending one of the walks, PLEASE take a few hours our of your day to help support OCF. It means so much having survivors attend, it shows others that there really is a future and hope of a good life after the battle. It shows people attending what oral cancer is and how brutal it can be. The biggest motivator to me is to speak up for those that we have lost and to teach the general public about how deadly OC is and the importance of yearly screenings, HPV, and the Guardisil shot. Im pretty sure my message sunk in smile

Ditto to what Anne Marie wrote, Christine. We'll be looking for pictures on Facebook, and maybe a video of your speech? I know you did a wonderful job because that is what you do.
