Could someone PLEASE tell me if this looks suspicious? This is the lateral side of my tongue. It's been like this for a few months. My PCP didn't seem very concerned, and told me "it appears to be chronic irritation". Idk. It's making me sick thinking about it.

Im 32/F/smoker....and scared.

idk: I could not open the link (asked for a password), but in any event, any kind of mouth sore that does not heal within 2 weeks should be checked by an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat specialist), preferably one who is an ENT/Surgeon.

That way you will find out for sure if it is anything to worry about, and you can ease your mind that it really is a "chronic irritation". and if it is, keep an eye on it for any changes.

good luck.

DX 12/6/10 of T3 SCC Tongue.
Surgery 1/3/11 was hemigloss & forearm free flap, midline mandibulectomy, Neck Disection-All nodes clear.
Ended rads 5/11/11. Taste buds back to about 80%. PEG removed 4/5/12, experimenting eating real food again. If I can do this, so can you !! Stay Strong.

I initially thought that too; especially because I noticed it shortly after a run of antibiotics for tonsillitis. Studying things like pathology and microbiology make me think I have every disease I learn about!!

now that I see the pic, it looks like thrush to me as well. In any event, call that ENT on Monday for sure.

How painful is it? Thrush and I are big time buddies and it's very painful and mine never looked like that or was it confined to the side of the tongue. Once present it covered my entire tongue.

It's not painful. At first I never felt anything, but as of late it's starting to feel sore.
