I know everyone has been worried about Jim. So far I have found out Jim has come thru his surgery and is doing well. I hope to have more specific info soon. Jim is already sitting up in a chair flirting with the nurses. What a trooper!!!! He got thru the surgery easily and was awake while in the recovery room. He is in alot of pain which has not changed with the surgery. Unfortunately pain meds cant be given automatically, Jim must ask for them. The surgeon found an infection in his jaw so only removed his jawbone. At this time he has not had his leg bone moved to his jaw. First they want to get the infection under control with a few weeks of IV antibiotics. He sure is on a long road with another huge surgery coming up. Jim as responded well to everything, including the trach. He has even asked about his OCF pals. Jim's room number is 872N. Any cards or get well wishes are welcome to keep Jim's spirits up. Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 | Jim had his daughter give me a call while she was visiting him in the hospital. He has gotten several of the e-cards and loves them! His spirits are good. The picc line with IV antibiotics could be something he needs for up to 6 weeks to clear the big infection he had in his jaw. Jim's pain is a little better today. Jim isnt just sitting in the chair now, he is up and about walking the halls. Jim is doing so well they are considering releasing him sometime soon. Keep up with sending those cards, thanks!!!!

There weren't that many choices in the "Get Well" section, but lots of different ones in the Fall and Christmas stuff. I did send a Birthday one (I know its not his b'day) cuz I liked the colorful balloons. Jim has such a great attitude - I really think it is helping him to get thru the pain and the difficult recovery. I hope so, anyway.

I think it helps him to be positive when he sees how much we all care about him. I think I will send him another real card by regular mail tomorrow.
Jim's daughter said he is anxious to get back onto the forum. Sounds like he misses everyone.

Bob age 57, non smoker,non drinker, ended treatment on 11 Nov 2007 and started back to work on 29 Nov 2007. Veterans Day 2012 the Battle was lowered, folded, Taps was played and the Flag buried as I am know a 5 year survivor. Semper-FI !!!

Jim is doing fine, he is awake and walking the halls. Better safe than sorry. Hope Jim fights off the infection so he can get the surgery over with and recover. Poor Jim! He is still being given the stronger IV antibiotics thru his picc line. The week after Thanksgiving his doctor will attempt the mandibulectomy surgery again.
At this time, its probably best to stop the cards. He wont be at the rehab facility very long so we can resume cards again when he goes back to the hospital. When I find out more info, I will update again.

Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Praying for great success from the upcoming surgery. It is good that we can't all visit you because none of the staff could get around the crowd of your OCF family to take care of the other patients.

Bob age 57, non smoker,non drinker, ended treatment on 11 Nov 2007 and started back to work on 29 Nov 2007. Veterans Day 2012 the Battle was lowered, folded, Taps was played and the Flag buried as I am know a 5 year survivor. Semper-FI !!!

Julieann Nov 2007 SCC on right tonsil following tonsillectomy. Was smoker, QUIT. (Stage IV T2 N2b) 7 weeks radiation one day/wk chemo (carboplatin and 5-FU). Allergic to Taxol; PEG in, lost 30 lbs. TX completed January 2008. PEG out mid- 2008. Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 | Jim went for surgery today. Unfortunately the doctor didnt get too far. Jim's jaw still has the infection in it so the surgery had to be put off again. He is in the same hospital but I do not know which room yet. When I find out I will post it.

Ex-spouse MISDIAGNOSED with SCC-HN IVa 12/10. Tonsils out 1/11. 4 teeth out 2/11. TX Erbitux x2, IMRT x2 2/11. 2nd opinion-benign BCC-NOT CANCER 3/11. TX stopped 3/11. New doctors 4/11. ENT agrees with 2nd opinion 5/11. ENT scoped him-all clear 7/11. Ordered MRI anyway. MRI 8/22/11 Result-all clear.

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 | Jim was released from the hospital today. He will continue to recover from the surgery. Jim is still on IV antibiotics for his jaw infection. Hopefully it will be under control soon so he can get his jaw operated on.

CG to Mom, dx 4/25/07 with tongue cancer,T3N0,tx began 7/6/07, 31 tx's of IMRT, 8 cycles of Erbitux. Brachytherapy, surgery, left neck dissection and temp trach placed all on 9/17/07, trach removed 10/17/07. ORN of jaw, late effect of radiation symptoms. **lost my beautiful mother on 5/5/11.
