I ended up in the hosp for nine days. when I started useing my teeth guards my mouth was fine. they added three days of rad at the end for a total of 33days of treatments. My question is does anybody think having three weeks off in the middle of my rad will affect the out come of the rad treatments?

My recollection from a few of them was that, although discouraged, a small break like this will not have a great effect on outcome. A number of them can.
One reason they discourage breaks if that some patients dont want to return.

After that week off, I felt so much better, but one week later and the same thing happened. It also landed me in the hospital, but my RO made me continue treatments. I was on high dose pain meds so I really did not care. Once we got the pain under control and the acid reflux I was good to go.

My dad developed Grade 3 Oral Mucositis and RO said that he will watch for 3 more days with strong dose of antibiotics (for his oral infection) and pain meds while radiation will continue. In worst case, RO was prepared to get him hospitalized and continue radiation. In my dad's case, he has so far discouraged any breaks. Father; 67 yrs; RIP: 2012/05/26
