Does anyone know why the ENT's make you say "EEEEEEEEEEEEE" while the scope is in your nose and down your throat?

Does this open the epiglottis?

I was taught to do this as a better way to examine my patients when my surgical oncologist made me do it.

You are exactly right. It makes the epiglottis move a lot better than the AHHHHHHHHHHH sound.

Hmmmmmm - seems this EEEEEEEEEE position is useful in many ways: Back in grammar school the choir director used to tell us that we had to smile while singing which produced the EEEEEEEEEE position and made us sing better! Makes people think you're happy to see them, too. smile smile smile
