Well, at least you are considering them. One of the things that we learned when getting Bill tested for his aids is that hearing is a use it or lose it type of thing..that the hearing mechanism and brain need to work to maintain optimal hearing.
I know you are crazy busy now but do go see someone after season and bring your checkbook...those things are expensive.... but, in our case, so worth it!

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

I heard recently that there's a correlation between hearing loss and brain or memory function, maybe from my Mother. Something about the hearing loss causing some atrophy in the brain which in turn affects memory. I'm pretty sure that's what she said, although I could be totally off the mark!

Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 939 | David, My understanding of the issue is that its like when they treat kids for lazy eye by patching the good eye to force the bad eye to work. I don't think you are in danger of losing your entire hearing but it does cause your hearing to continue to deteriorate. Please don't take my word for it but, as I know you will, do investigate your hearing loss with a reputable audiologist or otolaryngologist. The newer technologies in hearing augmentation are so good, they can customize hearing aids to your particular type of hearing loss and give you much better hearing even in a crowded room or in the wind, for instance. It has made all the difference in Bill's life although it did not take care of the "selective hearing" that occurs with him frequently  . In that case, I just yell louder!
