I have now been in the hospital a week and they are saying I need a blood transfusion. Why would my blood count deteriorate with me just laying here and getting tests. They have done no procedures except a colonoscopy. Does that mean I probably have internal bleeding? No one will answer my questions.

Are you getting whole blood? red cells? platelets?? If they won't answer your questions, don't accept the transfusion! That's completely unacceptable.

HERE I GOT A JOKE TO SEND TO YOU
MAYBE YOU CAN USE IT IT IS CALLED

HOW IS NORMA?
A sweet grandmother
telephoned St. Joseph 's Hospital. She timidly asked,
"Is it possible to speak to someone who can tell me how a patient is doing?"

The operator said,
"I'll be glad to help, dear. What's the name and room number of the patient?"

The grandmother in her weak, tremulous voice said,
"Norma Findlay, Room 302."

The operator replied,
"Let me put you on hold while I check with the nurse's station for that room."

After a few minutes, the operator returned to the phone and said,
"I have good news. Her nurse just told me that Norma is doing well. Her blood pressure is fine; her blood work just came back normal and her
physician, Dr. Cohen, has scheduled her to be discharged tomorrow."

The grandmother said,
"Thank you. That's wonderful. I was so worried. God bless you for the good
news."

The operator replied,
"You're more than welcome. Is Norma your daughter?"

The grandmother said,"No, I'm Norma Findlay in Room 302. No one tells me shit."

Yikes that's scary. I agree, ask why you need a blood transfusion. I have signed a consent for one for my surgery, but I will be donating my own blood towards it.

Well I guess they are giving me a transfusion because my blood count is low and they are planning surgery for tomorrow or Thursday. But the surgery is just to unblock the obstruction, it is not a cure. The pathology reports came back and I have colon and lung cancer and I'm terminal. Boy that sure was fast going from one almost clear PET scan to cancer spread throughout my body. They won't say how long I have but they told me it would take about 4 weeks to heal from the surgery and then to do whatever I want to do as long as I can.

Barbara:
I am so terribly, terribly sorry. Is there any way/hopes to have a second opinion for some sort of treatment? I will be praying for you, my pal, and also praying that there is some hope. You certainly have everyone's prayers and concern. Please keep posting and updating us.

god bless and do ask for a second opinion. step father was diagnosed with colon, kidney, lung, liver and brain tumors. They weren't going to do anything for him, but then he seemed to be getting better mentally after a few weeks. As it turns out he had colon cancer. It had metastasized to his liver. There was no brain involvement - they do make mistakes - he'd had a minor stroke - and the mass on his kidney was scar tissue - they removed a small part of his liver, colon, and a bit of his lung - and he lived for another 8 years - and it wasn't cancer that took him - when they went in to remove his kidney - they had already started cutting before realizing it was scar tissue so they removed it. A year ago he got sick - ended up in the hospital and the one kidney he had couldn't help him fight the infection he had. A second opinion will definitely not hurt.

So sorry!!! I will be putting you in my prayers and I would also agree to get a second and maybe even a third opinion. As seen a a different post people all over in the hospitals make mistakes.
