For many of us , this time of year brings the "Employee Giving" or United Way, or Combined Campaign, where we are solicited for charitable contributions to be deducted from our pay.
Many companies will award matching contributions.
The foundation is a non-profit 501(c) 3, public service charity, and many of these company sponsored programs will allow you to designate any 501 (c) 3 charity as the beneficiary of your generosity.

I, for one, can think of no charity more deserving of my donation, and would like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to consider it also.
If a couple of thousand people designate a couple of bucks a payday, we could start to talk about some real money smile .

It's an almost painless way to donate, and perhaps, with some company matching funds... well, you get the idea.

Good Health,

Chuck

So I see that United Way has survived their scandal from 2003...

See:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/w...tentId=A31702-2004Mar4&notFound=true

http://www.etherzone.com/2003/lang082903.shtml

General information about charities in general:
http://www.trentstampstake.org/2006/05/todays-united-way-scandal.html

Unfortunately most large charities like this have very high overheads and very little of your money actually goes to the people who need it most.

When the "firefighters" or local "police" call ask ask for money, it's usually a boiler room operation and typically less then 10% goes to the actual burn unit or whatever. Totally shameless and disgusting. I ALWAYS hang up on them. Why not just donate directly.

OCF has very little overhead and almost all of the money goes to running the site and education and materials for early detection. Make a monthly donation here, if you feel that you have been helped. It's tax deductible as well (and we don't get a dime from United Way).

Sounds like a great idea Chuck - will they add OCF to their list of designated charities? We'll be happy to provide them a copy of our 510(c)3.

On the web store there is a comments block. If you enter that you want someone to know you made a donation in their name, (provide the name and address of the person) OCF will send them a card that tells than that a donation has been made in their name, or in memory of, or whatever you wish. We do this all the time, and it happens particularly when someone is lost unfortunately, and we notify the family of all the names and addresses of the people who made donations in memorium. This allows them to send thanks out to everyone.

This summer Blythe Danner made a donation to the foundation in memory of Bruce. This was in relationship to all of his friends who attended a last party at the house that he and Blythe raised Gwyneth in, shared many memorable dinners with these friends in etc. that she was selling. We sent cards out to all the attendees as she gave generously in each of their names. Giving thanks for what people do for us is part of it all... my signature block did not happen by chance.
