Tomorrow we go in to have a scope done on his throat so the Dr. can look around to see what's going on. He will then advise us on where to go from here. There is a tumor that has grown thru his trachea, which the Dr. seems to think he can do a procedure to stop him from spitting up so much blood and hold it at bay for a while, but it will keep growing. So, off to another operating room and waiting room...will let my OCF family know how it goes.

Hugs,
Paula

Procedure went fine - tumor is now encompassing 10 cm of his trachea. Dr. can put a stint in when/if the bleeding gets really bad - needs 2 days advance notice as the stint & tools are very specialized and only availabe in Boston - so they have to have time to travel to Dallas...I told him we'd fed ex them and have 'em here in a day; he talked to me in the hall and told me that the tumors are in the "very aggressive" stage...hell, what does that mean??? Dr.is more concerned w/ Jim not being able to swallow - we now have a gastroenterolgist appt. on Tues. - he is unable to keep much down when he does swallow...he has projectile vomiting....so, will try to keep him with fluids and hopefully Tues. we will know more....none of it good, I'm sure, just by looking @ him.

Thanks to my OCF family for being here.....by the looks of what EZ Jim has been undergoing, looks like my Jim is headed in the same direction.....my Jim isn't nearly as funny though....

Hugs,
Paula

hello my dad was diagnosed in february with stage 4 tongue cancer, started floor of mouth.. we chose to do rads and chemo first, first biopsy in august was clear! did another one in november and its back..now the ENT is saying he needs bottom portion of jaw removed, floor of mouth is where cancer is, about 1/3 of tongue and neck dissection.. how anyone experienced this? i need to prep my father for this huge surgery on dec 7.. also the ENt said he thinks he can save his base of tongue and voicebox, but may have to wake my dad up during surgery if he has to take it to ask him?! huh never heard of this either! HELP!

THANK YOU..
