Fourteen years ago I had chemo for ovarian cancer and at that time I have a number of molars removed because of the dangers of infection. The result is that I have an only partially functioning set with many gaps. Probably because I haven't been able to clean my teeth so well since free flap surgery I have developed decay in my front teeth. One root-canalled tooth broke off at gum level yesterday.
Implants are out of the question - without dental insurance they would cost a small fortune. Question is, do I prop up my existing teeth with fillings and so on or do I get them all out and get dentures.
I'm in a new town so don't know any particular dentist well. In my experience dentists hate the idea of the old fashioned dentures.
What experience of dentures do people have?
1996, ovarian cancer surgery + cisplatin and taxol. September, 2007, SCC of left lateral tongue. Excision. October, 2009 recurrence in scar tissue, T1NOMO. Free flap surgery from left wrist - neck dissection. 63 year old New Zealander. No chemo, no RT. February, 2014. New primary in left buccal mucosa. Marginal mandibulectomy, neck dissection, right arm free forearm flap. T1N0M0 but third occurrence and some areas of concern: RT started 8 April and finished 19 May.

There ia a Dental place here that makes a set for $495 , uppers and lowers. Mine were perfect until they took them all out for rad seed implants and of course radiation and Erbitux.
Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April. --- Passed away 5/14/14, will be greatly missed by everyone here
