Tomorrow is the day I will officially join the rest of you in this battle. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 to check-in for my 7:30 surgery. I am going to have a panendoscopy (they might as well take a look around), a partial glossectomy (the surgeons estimate is to remove around 10% to 15% of my tongue, but his firm estimate is until he has clear margins), and a modified Neck Dissection. To my surprise I am not very anxious.. I have tried to read, watch and learn everything I could about my condition in the 3 weeks I have been waiting on the surgery and I think that is really helping keep the nerves at bay. I am sure that in the morning I may not feel the same and the nerves may creep up on me, but I have a 2mg Xanax with their name on it that should do the trick. The Dr. has also given me permission to take a nap through the whole thing. I seems like forever since I have had a 5 hour nap

We created a caringbridge site to update people. My appologies, I can't remember who's post directed us to the site, but thank you. It's a big relief to know that I don't have to repeat the same things individually to friends and family... http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/tommyrayfield
I think I'm more nervous than Tommy. It's 9 hours until we have to be at the hospital and he's playing Rockband on the xbox with one of our boys!

your diagnoses sounds a lot like mine. I was diagnosed the same day. I had surgery april 13, 2010. I had stage 3 on the right lateral of my tongue, with perineural invasion, but mine was well differentiated, but I had a hemiglossectomy, right side neck dissection where they removed 40 lymph nodes. I am almost a month out of surgery. And I will have radiation starting in about a month.

If you would like to chat, just let me know.

Oh and I will keep you in my prayers and hope all goes well with your surgery, and that they get clean margins.
