Im very frugal and hate to waste anything. My idea would be to rent one for the weekends that you want to go out and live it up. This way you arent stuck with a huge bill that would make things tight. Down the road you probably wouldnt want to be burdened by another expensive vehicle. Just tires on those fancy cars cost an arm and a leg.

Just be happy with whatever you decide. Im very sorry to hear of the lastest prognosis. Enjoy everyday as much as it is possible. Wishing you many many happy days ahead!!!!

Hi Paula, would definitely vote to go for it. I posted something similar a while back regarding traveling. Since getting "permission" here to be a little reckless financially, in the last nine months we have been on three vacations and a cruise and wouldn't trade one of those days to be "ahead of the game".

Maybe you can find someone trying to get out of a lease where you can take over their remaining time. If you search on "leasing car assume" there are sites that have Porsches, Maseratis, etc. It may be more expensive than buying but that way you won't need to hassle with reselling it down the line. Did a quick look at exotic rentals and like a Porsche 911 was running about $3000/week, $1300/weekend or $450/day while you can assume a lease on the same vehichle a year or two older for $1000-1500/month. Maybe going through the hassle of reselling later wouldn't be too bad.

Whatever you decide, good luck and wishing you and your husband as many good days as possible.

luckily we already have a mustang saleen (although andy is too weak to drive it). but he has been dropping little hints for a camero.
so i say JUST DO IT! dont lease...keep it. u are not going to want to part with it. although the mustang added a 3rd car payment to us, it has been well worth it-plus it will be paid off in a few months!! ((happy dance))!!!

cancer makes you look at everything in a totally new light--the light at the end of the tunnel is actually that NEW LIGHT!!

those exotic cars in vegas are the bomb! we salivate over them every time. VERY expensive though. although weve never spent the money before, we may have to go for it this time, when we go back.

Hello Paula,
I have been thinking about you both and praying; are you holding up ok? As for the car? go for it! I have the same thought as Eileen, especially if it is something that gives you both a lot of pleasure doing together. The memories and fun you will have will be worth it! Sending lots of love, peace and white lights your way.
Love,
Donna

Thanks everyone for all of your advice - I'm hoping that we will go for it. I told him today what y'all were saying and read to him the messages - he's never seen this board...his comment is you do the talking and I'll do cancer...so, he's down tonight - says that maybe he'll just set aside the $ that we have and once we get all the $ together so we can pay cash, then he'll do it. Otherwise, it just wasn't meant to be. So, told him that I wouldn't go to the Grand Canyon this summer (since that's a trip I wanted), unless we could go in the Challenger. Y'all are right - I would never get rid of the car - I would hang on to it 4-ever. Thanks to everyone for all of your prayers and concern.

I echo what the majority have said...do it, without reservation, hesitation or remorse. I have ridden motorcycles most of my life, and took a break from riding for a couple of years when I was diagnosed.
Two years ago I was convinced that I would never ride again because of my leg and neck problems until a friend suggested that I should give it a try again at least, before I said " I can't".
Thank goodness for him; I DID try it again, and found that " I could". Ultimately, it led to chronic motorcycle-itis...I bought my dream Harley last year.
A Harley for me...a sports car for you...the memories of even one day of a dream fulfilled will make it all worthwhile, and they'll never diminish. Do it; you'll be so glad you did

As another two wheel traveler most of my life, I too gave up motorcycles for awhile when cancer came knocking. But 2 years later I was back in the saddle. A blog of mine has a story about the motorcycle experience. www.geared2survive.com

Hi Brian and Wayne,

My husband is also a two wheel traveler! And like you Wayne, he bought his dream Harley Davidson a couple years after his cancer treatment ended. It's interesting how "cancer" totally changes your outlook on life. I have to admit....I'm tired of being the "bitch on the back" and want to take the motorcycle course so that I can learn to ride too. I'm very excited! Hey Brian, since you live in our neck of the woods, it would be fun to go on a ride with you one of these days! We could start our own Oral Cancer Survivor Motorcycle Gang!! LOL

I started with it again too AC. The wife wanted to be the person on that back.... Ha! as soon as I got the motorcycle she wanted one too... and now after the course we are both "certifed"
