If you know your days/months are numbered at least from the medical world, what do you do if you know something that will make the patient very, very happy to have (yes guys, it's a sports car) and have some fun with and that the 2 of you could have fun with while he's still able to get around a little....do you go for the gusto and just buy it and almost break the bank or do you do the sensible thing and say no. Quite likely to wish that after it's all said and done "wish that I had bought the damn thing" and quit being so responsible and let go and have some fun....what do do? what to do?

Sorry to see "days/months being numbered" in your post.
I think Margaret's ideas is brilliant given the circumstances.
Go for the gusto especially if you can rent or lease !

Thrilled to hear from you Paula. I had asked the others a short while ago if they had heard from you.

I agree - GO FOR IT and the idea of renting or leasing it for say 6 months would seem a prudent thing to do.

I would throw that word "sensible" out the window and I would be travelling and doing just exactly what I wanted to do. You, as caregiver, will never regret doing these things with him.

Enjoy every day. My inspirational quote of the day today was "We do not remember days - we remember moments". How fitting.

I am with Donna.

go for it cruise etc... re car (lease or rent) would seem the prudent thing to do.
Speaking of prudent... In Las Vegas there is a place where you can rent Ferraris and Aston Martins.

google "Vegas exotic car rental" ... and you should ask and get a discount!

Definitely go for it! My partner bought a BMW convertible a few months out of treatment and loved it. When he suggested a Harley a few months later, I bit my normal sensible tongue and thought: no matter what happens in the future he will have fulfilled a lifetime dream. He was down a week ago, thinking cancer was back but got his Harley out and kept going for short rides, which seem to really cheer him up in his darkest moments. Seeing his excitement and pride really helps me too. We have definitely adopted a 'spend as it it was your last day and have no regrets' attitude since his diagnosis, and subsequently I feel as I have a treasure trove of happy memories that it would have taken years to acquire in other circumstances.

It is funny, I have long had an academic interest in the sociology of money and its expenditure - the meanings we give to cash, and the way and we and others spend it. I think cancer really changes that. A few weeks ago we treated several of Chaz's friends to a ridiculously expensive restaurant for Chaz's 50th. One has recently had twins - an addition to 2 teenagers and is busy mapping out a financial plan for the next 20 years. Another had just had a baby and is in dire financial straights, yet another jobless after finishing a masters. When I went to the loo in the middle of the meal I found myself imagining what each of us must have thought when we looked at the prices on the menu and how cancer has affected my money lens.

Paula don't hesitate - I hope you both have a ball!

I agree with the rest....go for it!! Who knows...if the car company knows your situation they may give you a great deal. I hate to read that your husband's days/months are numbered. All the more reason to live each day together as full as possible.

Hugs to you both,

Shelley

Try looking at a used car. They have some nifty sports cars with low miles. You should be able to resell it back into the marketplace without taking to much of a hit. You can also look at an historic car. If they are restored back to "good" but not great condition, you can buy one and sell it back into the marketplace at the same price.

I have a 77 MGB. Not historic enough to be worth a lot (about $5,000) but great fun. I've had it for years and can sell it for what I paid. I saw a well restored corvett the other day for $18,000. Without to many additional miles it could be resold into the marketplace for about the same price a year or two from now.

My two bits

Somehow I don't think you are going to want to part with this car so I would buy it rather than leasing it if you plan on keeping it. Either way, defintely go for it and enjoy the fun.

Take care,
Eileen
