Nursing students is a great idea! The university I taught at had a policy of community involvement and they STRONGLY encouraged profs and instructors to give of their time to the community. In our Language dept, I did some tutoring and teaching as well. Nursing depts at universities must have something similar. What about senior citizen groups? There must be lots of healthy, active senior citizens in Florida - maybe even some attractive ladies - who need a break from all that Bingo and Dancing to volunteer some of their time? Especially to a nice guy like Ed. smile

Margaret,

Actually he called me yesterday as he was about to leave for his next appt w/ Moffitt. He had all his charts, reports and films, at aleast I hope he did. He said he would call me today & let me know what he was told. It's funny but Ed is 67 years young and I don't trust him with the docs as if he was my teenage son.

I went over a ton of options with him as to a caregiver, many of which came from this post. He was still in denial thinking that he would be able to go it alone. He even told me in support of that thinking that he had already paid his monthly bills through the end of summer. I had used "paying bills" as just 1 example out of a million why he needed a CG but he seemed to fix upon that one as proof that he could handle the Tx now that that was out of the way.

Another thing that he is fixed on is that my RO told him last week that without a CG he, the RO, wouldn't give him the "agressive" Tx meaning he would ONLY get radiation and not concurrent chemo. Ed again thinks that since he's not going to get the "agressive" Tx he will handle it just fine.

I have talked until I'm blue in the face as they say so I'm hoping Moffitt did a better job yesterday.

Amy,

I have always acknowledged the extremely important role of CG's and I would never wish that role on anyone but unfortunately after being a patient I'm well qualified in most respects to be one. The main thing I lack is patience.

Any of you trained, expert CG's available to come to sunny, beautiful west coast Florida for 2 months??? Aaaah, margaritas under your umbrella while the warm gulf waters lightly brush against your feet.

David - Please tell Ed that ust having the Radiation Tx doesn't mean it's a piece of cake! My son had surgery and radiation only and went thru horrible nausea, sore, blistering, bleeding and painful throat and bad reactions to medications. He does need a CG who can be there in case he gets to the point where he is willing to give up a little control and get some temporary help to heal successfully. Perhaps Ed will be one of the lucky ones who will breeze thru everything, but it's always nice to have a "back up" plan. You can sign me up for the 2nd month which I hope would include those difficult 3 weeks post treatment.

Bill,

I assume Ed would prefer a female CG. JMHO

AM,

I hope could could tell my sarcastic tone in my post but I have told him 1000 times radiation alone will still require a CG.

I have put u down for the 2nd month and that qualifies you for the delux pkg. Details will be available upon arrival.
