I do have Zofran, but nausea is not my big problem. The stupid gagging from the swollen throat is my problem. When I do the chemo I use the Zofran about once or twice and it does a great job at getting rid of the nausea from the chemo.

the fentynol patch dials up more than what u are on. i think they just have to start u out at 25, to see if u can tolerate it. let the RO know it isnt cutting it, hopefully he will give u a stronger dose.

Take the Zofran. John's nausea was more from the mucus than the chemo. He didn't talk for a month beause everytime he tried the mucus gagged him and he would throw up. Can't hurt to try. Hang in there, the end is in sight!

Well, had two Dr.s in the office today. I must have looked pretty bad this morning. Did not sleep a wink last night and they said my pulse rate was too low. Anyway, I am now on 50mg of fentanyl and they are getting me a fedding pump for night time because my RO said that I am not getting enough nutrition and losing too much weight. They threatened to put me in the hospital if I lose any mroe weight. We are going to try and push through the week as he changing part of the treatment regime. He is now going to be radiateing right on my throat anymore and is now going to be focusing mainly where the cancer was/is for the remainder of the treatments. So maybe some relief is in site. I did break down and start crying when the first Dr, came in to see me today. He knew I was not feeling well, because normally we joke around about stuff, but today I was just feeling awful. I am to the point that i can not swallow anything without pain. The patch has taken away the constant pain, now I need to work on getting rid the swallowing pain.
I did get my hearing checked yesterday and I have slight change in my right ear, but I do not think it will be enough to discontinue chemo all together. I will have another test when I am completely finished with treatments.

Angelia,

Your getting there. Not much further now. I noticed at this stage I liked the fact that my radiation treatments went faster as the area they hit was smaller. I also had the liquid hydracodone that I could take a few times a day. I gave that about 20 min. to work and then would load up on hydration and ensure plus.

Keep the faith, your closer to the end then the start. As a pilot we call this the point of no return. It means you might as well finish as its a further trip back to the start then making it to your destination.

Good Luck.

Kelly

Kelly makes a great point. I was on liquid oxycodone for breakthrough pain. It absorbs faster buccally (by mouth) however if it hurts too much to swallow then it's easy to shoot it through the tube. It's fast acting either way and didn't taste bad to boot. It's easy to miss your dosage with the liquid stuff so make sure you follow directions.

Hang in there sport, you're almost there.

Hi Angelia,
I passed on the liquid oxyie and went to liquid morphine. It was almost instant relief from the breakthrough pain. It tasted like crap so I always used the PEG. In the end I was on Both Fentynal and 30 cc of Morphine per day. I was very comphie most of the time.I was a bit afraid of so much pain meds but I am glad I had them. Was fairly easy to get off too, maybe took ne a month or 6 weeks to step down to zero.

You are very close to the end! Keep hydrating!

I had both of those too and they did help along with percocet . I am so sorry you are still having this bad pain and hope the patches take care of it and you get some rest and some food in you..You can do it and hopefully one day soon you will post the pain and nausea are almost or completely gone..
