Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

70 male, athlete...again
SSC of undetermined orgin , early july 09
40 tx radiation, 8 chemo cisplatin and ebuterx
finished TX in mid Sept 09
Clear at the 6 year mark!
Back to swimming, biking and running! just a tad slower
never regained my weight, even when I eat lots and lots, just a skinny guy now

Just way glad to be seeing the green side up!

Wishing you the best of luck with your treatments. Its not an easy thing to go thru but you can do it. Just keep up that nutrition and hydration so you will feel ok. Your positive attitude will also help you get thru this easier smile

Goodluck Donald and all my prayers. If a guy my age can do it, you will do it easier and come out of it in great shape after the tough days pass. Jim


Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

just completed my fourth rad treatment so far so good food of course taste like yuk! but forcing it down nothing tastes right! will start chemo friday i guess a new experience thanks all for being here i will keep you guys informed donald

Donald, the not tasting right takes awhile, but you will get used to it as we did. I wish you luck thru the rest of your treatments and with the Chemo. It is a natural thing for a human to wonder and antipacpate, but then it happens and we know what it's about. No matter what, we survive and go on grumbling. I wish you the best and will watch your posts.
