I flew from the east coast to the west coast, round trip and had a letter from my doctors to explain the Jevity, syringes, etc. There was a little hassle in some airports, but not much. We stayed on the west coast for a week so I packed enough cases of Jevity in my checked suitcases to last that long based on 6 cans a day. I only took 6 cans in my carry on bag to make sure I'd have enough feedings to allow for cancellations, layovers, etc. I look back now and can't believe I even made the trip because it WAS a trip! LOL! crazy

TomT

thanks for the report from the field. It's good to get feedback from those who have actually gone as opposed to "what's supposed to happen" based on TSA website. For us the key will be to be prepped for the extra scrutiny and get used to being treated like we were terrorists posing as head & neck cancer patients.
I have to remind myself these mindless minions have no sense of humor even though they have never stopped a real terrorist yet. I love the TSA official blog site which has great stories about all the drug smugglers they catch because cocaine registers as an explosive on their little sniffers. TSA even treats this as catching terrorists in their statistics. Especially poignant though are TSA's official pronouncements on why they search grandmothers in wheelchairs so I guess I will just suck it up when we go.

Wow, exactly the itinerary and specifics we were looking to hear about. I already vented with TomT, so won't go on about bogus security of TSA. I also plan on bringing 6 cans a day, and had wondered about getting 6 of them on carry-on. I can deal with hassle - I may not like it - but since they seem to be picking on every head and neck cancer traveler I won't feel singled out.
How did the stewardess take you putting Jevity down your PEG?

The Washington Post ran an article today on TSA, that really summarized my feelings about the TSA:
the agency's liquid-and-gel rules are clearly spelled out on its Web site. (How they're interpreted -- well, that's another story.) ...I can't be objective or even consistent on the subject of the TSA and the way it treats air travelers. I've been covering this agency from the beginning, and in the eight years since its creation, I've criticized it, praised it, ridiculed it, called for more funding and for it to be de-funded
Try Amtrak.
You can take an amazing amount of luggage and they don't care what you bring on or check in as long as it's not dangerous stuff like explosives or corrosive materials. They say that you are subject to screening but all I've encountered is that everything you carry on must be tagged.
I have seen people boarding with more stuff than 3 people could take on a plane. Besides carry ons you can check in 3 bags plus another 3 at $10 each.
The seats are much mre comfortable and spacious than on a plane or car and you have plenty of space to miove around.

The only advantage of air travel over stagecoach is that planes have bathrooms and usually can get you further in less time.

Hi Charm,
Frankly, the stewardesses didn't even pay any attention. My husband sat on the outer most seat and helped to conceal my feedings by draping a blanket over my shoulder. It gave me a sort of nostalgic feeling, like when I used to discreetly breast feed my son on the plane. ;-)

Poignant reply: how fast they grow up huh? Although it won't be so memory evocative for me, it's reassuring that I will be able to "eat" my Jevity when we finally do get up and fly.
