We had originally booked this cruise for this past May to celebrate my daughter's graduation from college and my son's 21st birthday. When John was diagnosed we pushed the cruise to August. We had a wonderful time enjoying beautiful, calm waters, sunny days with 90 degree temps and not a drop of rain. We have so much to be grateful for and to celebrate. Even with eating more than usual, John didn't gain an ounce. I know it will take time. John had a CT Scan with IV contrast of his neck and chest the week before we left. We had decided to wait until we returned to find out the results. John called the doctor without me knowing and got the results. He told me once we were onboard the ship that the CT Scan was clear. YEAH!!!
I sometimes feel like I'm holding my breath but it is getting a little easier to breathe and relax. I can't thank everyone on these boards enough for all the support and information during our journey. There is so little information out there about Oral Cancer and I myself was very clueless when John was diagnosed. I continue to read the messages every day and pray for everyone dealing with this terrible beast. Again thank you. Wanda

Congratulations on your wonderful news! Getting good news following the first scan after treatment is such a relief. Both Richard and I felt we could finally, after all the horrendous treatment, have that cloud hanging over us be gone. What a sense of relief and thankfulness. We all will be living with reoccurrence anxiety for the rest of our lives, but as time goes by with clear scans, hopefully this will fade. All I know is that we are not going to take anything for granted and for now, at this point in time, all is well and we are very thankful.
I'll never understand why the cancer returns for some people while others recover and go on with their lives. None of us can predict the future so for now we live with our "new normal." Ditto to your comments about this forum. I also check in to see how everyone is doing. I really can't imagine how we would of made it through this without the support and knowledge learned here. I will be eternally grateful that I found this site right at the beginning.
Richard hasn't been able to gain any weight either. Before treatment he gained 10lbs and that is exactly what he lost. He is at the same weight he was when he was diagnosed, so he didn't really lose much. He's back to all normal activities, working a bit and lots of walking and hiking. He still has very little saliva and it takes forever to chew and eat a full meal, but there are no complaints because we are very thankful that he is able to eat. Amazing, the everyday things that we used to take for granted! Again, congratulations on your wonderful news... Geri

It has been such a cool summer here that anywhere that had 90 degrees consistently gets my vote!
