Welcome to OCF. First of all, please get rid of the chewing tobacco immediately if you havent already.

Your question is difficult to answer. The rule of thumb is that if you have a sore in your mouth that doesnt dissapear within 2 weeks then you should have it checked. It can be checked by your dentist, family doctor or even an ENT or oral surgeon. If it doesnt look right to them, they will order a biopsy and the results will be back about a week later. Thats how you will be able to tell if its cancer.

...might be a chewing injury.....ie. a Dorito or something that poked you...but I hope you're scared enough to give up the chewing tobacco...or someday you MIGHT have the real thing (cancer,) if you don't already. If this doesn't settle in a week or so, go let someone see it. Cancer sometimes hurts and sometimes doesn't. Good Luck! XO

Let this be a wake up call for you to stop chewing. If you need some more motivation to stop, check out this site: www.outdoortexan.com

As it was said above, if you have this sore for 2 weeks without it going away, get it checked.

I hope it is nothing, but nobody here can tell you what you have. It must be looked at by a qualified person.

Would it hurt anything to have it checked? Mine was not noticable and then suddenly it felt like a cut or skin splitting. I ignored it from there until it was a tumor near the size of my thumb. At that point it bled when I touched it.

Yes, get it checked immediately. Actually try to see a dentist in the area, who has the VELscope. Dentists are the one who are trained to identify any changes in the oral mucosa and VELscope allows them to see what they can't see with the naked eye.

Like everyone has already mentioned, Let this be a wake up call for you and quit chewing tobacco.

Good Luck. Hopefully you write back with a good news of this being nothing of concern.
