Jean,

I am on my bike at the first hint of daylight, usually riding the first 10 miles with my lights on. I am finished by 10 am most days and rarely stay out till noon. It is on those pre planned long rides of 50 to 60 miles that I do put a waterproof exercise sunscreen on. My helmet also has a small visor and I wear sunprotected glasses so I am conscience of the harmful affects of the sun but I mostly try to avoid the high sun and traffic and increased wind, none of which turns a 50 mile trek into a fun event.
