Hey WIC

What a coincidence. We are both seeing our oncologists today, the 17th to check out a pain in our tongues. I have a little bump that bled about a week ago and still hurts.
I see from your other posts that you are "scared to death" about it being a possible recurrence. That's is perfectly natural.

I've gotten blase about tongue pain since all of my "scares" the last years involving tongue pain or bumps turned out innocuous. I had no symptoms except excessive drooling starting up and some difficulty swallowing when my doctor felt "something troubling". Zero tongue pain at that time But then my tumor was base of tongue which has no pain nerves. .
If my wife had not laid down the law to me last night that I absolutely had to see my doctor today, I would have just waited until the week after next when my regular 3 month appointment is. She is just frantic so I can better appreciate just how worried you are about this.

Back to your question: I could not see either one of my cancer tumors either time - nor could my doctors since it was inside the base of my tongue. But even though my doctor could not see the recurrence, she was able to feel under my tongue and detect trouble. Of course I had to have a biopsy done to be sure, but my doctor told me right away that she thought the cancer had most likely come back.

I'm not expecting any bad news today, but the fear never goes away. I hope you have excellent news today.
